Dr. Dietrich Haubenberger was the Director of the Clinical Trials Unit at the NINDS Intramural Research Program in Bethesda, MD from 2014 to 2019. As CTU Director, Dr. Haubenberger oversaw all activities of the Clinical Trials Unit. Furthermore, Dr. Haubenberger chaired the CTU Protocol Development Meetings and acted as Co-Director of the NINDS/FDA Clinical Trials Methodology and Regulatory Science Fellowship. Dr. Haubenberger’s research interests included tremor disorders with a special focus on the neurophysiology of Essential Tremor, as well as clinical trials and outcome measure research. He received his medical degree as well as training as neurologist at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria, followed by a tenure track position to become Associate Professor of Neurology in 2014. Though Dr. Haubenberger maintains an NINDS appointment as a collaborator/special volunteer, as of January 2019, Dr. Haubenberger accepted a position as Medical Director for Neurocrine Biosciences in San Diego, California.



Dr. Haubenberger’s research focuses on the area of movement disorders, where he is an expert in tremor disorders. He published in the field of clinical genetics, neurophysiology as well as outcome measures research. From 2008-2011, Dr. Haubenberger completed a research fellowship at NINDS under Dr. Mark Hallett, conducting IND-regulated clinical trials in patients with Essential Tremor.
