Neuroimmunology Clinic

Irene Cortese, M.D., Clinic Director

The Neuroimmunology Clinic evaluates and treats patients with immune-mediated diseases of the central nervous system in the context of clinical research. The primary focus is on multiple sclerosis, HAM/TSP (HTLV-I associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis), progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, antibody mediated encephalitis and undiagnosed and complex neuroinflammatory disorders. The Clinic supports protocols of several PIs focused on understanding the underlying mechanisms in these diseases through both natural history studies and clinical trials with new therapies. Patients undergo a comprehensive evaluation, including clinical, laboratory, and imaging studies. Physical therapy, social work, and consultations in other medical specialties are pursued if needed. The clinic also serves the role for training of residents and clinical fellows in the clinical management of neuroimmune disorders.
