I have a bachelor’s degree in Physics from the Federal University of Pernambuco in Brazil (2007). At the same Institution, I obtained my master’s (2009) and my Ph.D. (2013) degrees applying methods from Statistical Mechanics to study the brain in an interdisciplinary Physics/Neuroscience approach, under the supervision of Dr. Mauro Copelli and Dr. Sidarta Ribeiro. After a one-year post-doc, during which I was also an Assistant Professor of the Physics Department, I moved to the National Institute of Mental Health, at the National Institutes of Health, to start a post-doc at the Section of Critical Brain Dynamics, under Dr. Dietmar Plenz’ supervision.

I am interested in applying technics from Physics, especially Thermodynamics and Statistical Mechanics, to solve problems in Neuroscience, in particular brain dynamics. Neuronal avalanches, spatiotemporal activity cascades without characteristic size or duration, provide a link between those two major fields and has been the subject of my research over the last years. Recently, I have been focusing on trying to understand how behavior affects the dynamics observed in the relevant brain areas.
